Notes and Limitations Capacity Analysis (Jan 2014)
- Capacity Methodology
- A number of practice sites were currently excluded due to missing data.
- Small unfunded or peppercorn rent branches are mapped but excluded from capacity analysis
- Patients per Metre square is calculated by taking the weighted April 2013 practice
list and dividing it by the reimbursed floorspace across all funded main and branch
premises. This may mask constraint at one branch when there is capacity at another.
- Capacity is calculated by comparing the weighted list to a 'potential' list if the
reimbursed floorspace (NIA) was used to the average for the East Anglia Region (Norfolk,
Suffolk, Cambridge CCGs) which was 17.03 patients per metre reimbursed at the time of survey.
- The capacity figure is the number of additional registrations or the number of registrations
a practice would need to lose before reaching average utilisation.
- Years capacity is calculated by dividing the capacity figure by historical growth
in the unweighted list over the previous 12 months.
- A number of practices may host community services, run dispensaries or train students,
whilst these are normally funded activities they may reduce available capacity.
- Demand Methodology
- Demand is calculated by taking known housing commitments or proposals at Jan 2014 and multiplying
them by average household sizes
- Sites may be identified in adopted Plans but some may be proposals without council approval
- Not all identified sites will come forwards during the plan period and other sites subsequently approved will not be shown
